In the Mayan culture Pejel is the name for the sacred squares or diamond shapes.

In their iconography the world is represented by a diamond, the four sides of the figure are the delimitation of time and space.

The small diamonds at the ends of the corners are the four cardinal points, the most important of which are the East and West, because that is where the sun rises and sets there and in the textiles or in this case earrings they are placed at the top and bottom of the diamond, the North and the South at the left and right ends, respectively.
